The European Commission is in default on NUE Italy 112
Even on this occasion is Italy urged the European Commission. The argument concerns the emergency number 112 which we have already spoken in this post . In essence, Article. 26 of Directive 2002/22/EC of 7 March 2002 on universal service and users' rights relating to networks and electronic communications services (Universal Service Directive) requires Member States to ensure that you know the exact location of people who call the single European emergency number (NUE) 112. The European Commission at the time he started infringement procedures against 14 Member States which had failed to adjust their national systems. However, 11 of these cases were closed because they have regularized conforming to the provisions of the directive.
However, in the Court of Justice, as well as Italy have not yet fulfilled also Lithuania and the Netherlands.
For these reasons the European Commission has today sent a letter of formal notice asking our country to formally comply with the directive. It shows the preamble to the press release:
In Italy the emergency services still do not have the information that can identify the place from which the 112 calls from cell phones, contrary to Community law provides, and despite the ruling of the Court of Justice in January . The European Commission decided today to send a letter of formal notice requesting it to comply with the Court and to make available to emergency services caller location information for all 112 calls. Italy could be fined if the case were to arrive back before the Court.
What can I say? For some time have also been made parliamentary questions, it is desirable, therefore, that Italy will soon adapt, otherwise - beyond the procedure itself - is likely to stay out the whole European system.
